First, Aiden's g-string began to go out of tune, with ever increasing frequency, due to the heat. At one stage , even if it were tuned before each song, it would go out of tune in the next song. Then Mal broke a string and we had to stop to give him time to replace it, and then, during our brief set of 3 originals, Mal's amp died, and could not be rescued, meaning the Guitar had to go through Mark's PA, which didn't help the sound balance. And with no sound engineer, for the first and last time in our career, no-one could put right any problems in the sound balance, and apparantly it wasn't that good, especially in the second half. About half of the audience were really getting into it, and enjoying the songs, even waving cigarette lighters in the slow tunes, but the others were not getting into it at all.
When the final tune of the main set finished, we put down our instruments, and prepared to leave the stage for a reasonable time before returning for the encore, but the applause died very quickly indeed so we just carried on with our last 2 numbers.
